Echiomega Echium Seed Oil (sourced from Echium plantagineum) offers a completely unique source of plant-based omega-3, -6 & -9 fatty acids. Echium Seed Oil is the richest plant source of the omega-3 SDA (stearidonic acid), which is up to five times more effective at converting to the important long-chain fatty acid EPA than the short-chain omega-3 ALA found in other plant-based oils such as flaxseed or hempseed. Echiomega is an ideal supplement for vegetarians and vegans, offering support for cardiovascular health and eye function, maintaining anti-inflammatory and immune response, and promoting healthy skin.
Echium Seed Oil also contains other beneficial fatty acids including the potent anti-inflammatory omega-6 GLA (gamma linolenic acid) and omega-9 oleic acid. GLA helps to maintain cell membrane permeability and contributes to efficient brain function. GLA is the precursor to DGLA (dihomo-gamma-linolenic acid), which is converted into prostaglandins that regulate inflammation, pain, blood clotting and fluid balance. The omega-9 oleic acid, for which olive oil owes its health-supporting properties, has been shown to slow the development of heart disease by lowering total cholesterol levels and raising levels of high-density lipoproteins (HDL or ‘good’ cholesterol), whilst lowering low-density lipoproteins (LDL or ‘bad’ cholesterol). Echiomega contains approximately 73% polyunsaturated fatty acids, of which 26% are are omega-6 and 47% omega-3. This optimal omega-6 to omega-3 ratio of 1:1.8 makes it an ideal oil for nutraceutical application. Research suggests that SDA in combination with GLA raises blood cell EPA levels more effectively than EPA alone.
This unique combination of natural fatty acids provides cells with the nutrients required for efficient chemical signalling, integral to healthy brain function and the maintenance of overall well-being. Changes in diet and lifestyle may have affected the body’s natural ability to produce long-chain fatty acids in sufficient quantities, so it is important to boost the intake of omega fatty acids as part of the daily diet. Echiomega is the ideal nutritional supplement for those who are vegetarian, vegan or allergic to fish, to help boost the levels of the important omega fats in the diet.
